Anal Fistula Laser Treatment (FiLaC)

Anal Fistula Laser Treatment (FiLaC)

FiLaC (Fistula Laser Closure) to seal the fistula tract from within, preserving sphincter control and avoiding incontinence.

Procedure & Treatment Overview

FiLaC (Fistula Laser Closure)

An anal fistula is an abnormal, infected tunnel connecting the anal canal to the outer skin around the anus. It causes chronic pus discharge, pain, and recurrent abscesses. Traditional surgery (fistulotomy or fistulectomy) involves cutting open the tract, which risks damaging the anal sphincter muscles, leading to permanent fecal incontinence (inability to control bowel movements). FiLaC is a revolutionary, sphincter-saving laser procedure.

How FiLaC Works

Under spinal or general anesthesia, the fistula tract is thoroughly cleared of pus and debris. A flexible, radial emitting laser fiber is inserted into the tract from the outer opening to the inner opening. As the fiber is slowly withdrawn, it emits controlled, 360-degree laser energy that causes the tissues of the tract to collapse and seal together. The tract is closed from the inside out without cutting any sphincter muscles.

Benefits of FiLaC
  • Sphincter Preservation: Zero risk of damage to the sphincter muscles, ensuring perfect bowel control (no incontinence).
  • No Open Wounds: Minimal tissue destruction means no large open wounds to dress daily.
  • Faster Healing: High success rate with minimal post-op pain. Daycare discharge.
