Kidney Stone Management

Medical expulsive therapy and coordination of advanced minimally invasive procedures (URS/PCNL/ESWL) for kidney stones.

Procedure & Treatment Overview

Clinical Kidney & Ureteric Stone Management

Kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) are hard deposits of minerals and salts that form inside the kidneys. They cause excruciating pain in the back and side (renal colic), blood in the urine, and painful urination. If left untreated, a stone blocking the ureter can cause swelling in the kidney (hydronephrosis) and lead to kidney damage.

Our Diagnostic & Treatment Services
  • Medical Expulsive Therapy (MET): For smaller stones (less than 5-6 mm) that have a high chance of passing naturally, we prescribe alpha-blockers and hydration protocols to relax the ureter and flush out the stone.
  • Surgical Staging & Referrals: For larger stones causing severe obstruction or infection, we coordinate diagnostic CT Urograms and guide patients through modern, minimally invasive procedures:
    • ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy): Using shock waves to break the stone into tiny sand-like particles.
    • URS (Ureteroscopy) / RIRS: Using a flexible scope to locate and laser-dust the stone.
    • PCNL: Keyhole surgery to remove large staghorn stones from the kidney.
Prevention Care

We analyze the stone composition and recommend personalized diet changes, fluid intake protocols, and medical therapy to prevent kidney stones from forming again.
